Oh the Places You'll Go专辑介绍
Adestria is an up-and-coming metalcore band out of San Diego, who have shared the stage with several other big bands of the genre, like Miss May I, Bleeding Through, Impending Doom, Austrian Death Machine, Carnifex, and so much more. These guys are showing some real potential to be big on the music scene with the bands listed above.
The opening track of this 6-song EP, "Arrival", has the rainforest feel that creates a darker, dramatic mood, which quite properly fits the album. The drums and chanting, along with some screams, make the sound intense and even more dramatic. The song goes straight into the upbeat and slightly progressive intro of "With the Wind at Your Back", which immediately shows the talent of Matt's (lead vocals) low screams. Soon after the intro, you hear Matt's high screams, which are equally impressive, along with solid guitar work and drums to match. THEN, as if out of nowhere, Matt sings and you can clearly hear his emotion and clarity in the notes and words he's pumping out of his throat. Throughout a few tempo changes and some more progressive-inspired guitar riffs and slow blast beats, which fit the song perfectly, we get to a mini-speech in the middle of the song, with a fingered guitar solo in the background. The gang chants with a great breakdown, followed by low screams, complete this extremely good opening track.
The next song, "All My Friends Are Wild", is the first time we manage to hear some synthesizers. With the opening breakdown, we here an orchestra effect that perfectly connects with the breakdown itself. Then we've got some impressive drum fills galore, and some more slow blast beats and awesome sound guitar licks. Then we have another breakdown incorporating orchestra, and a synchronized clean vocal/screamed vocal chorus, going into some more progressive-inspired riffs. With one more breakdown, it goes into an electro break in the hardcore with echoed screams, and goes into a breakdown with a trance riff going in the background, and closes with said synth patch slowing down.
Track 3, "Concrete Eyes and Ivory Smiles" opens with a piano part that perfectly matches the tone of the song, and continues throughout the first thirty seconds or so. We hear some more of the very good clean vocals, and more greatly matching orchestra effects merged with breakdowns. We then have a tempo change breakdown with even more great sounding guitar riffs. The guitar work in this song and the entire album is great. However, this track feels a bit similar to the previous track...that is, until we get a breakdown including an 8-bit synthesizer patch followed by the most melodic guitar work on the EP, which then goes into a tempo change to a piano-included breakdown, that ends in a slowing piano part. This merges into the "Intermission", adding slow, simple drums and trempicked guitars, with slightly edited clean vocals that fit the tone perfectly.
The speed stays the same with a slow, soft, melodic intro to the closing track, "Dreamer", which opens with gang chants turning into screams. The guitars and drums then get heavy and the synth part gets very trance-y. The song then includes a very melodic piano part under a bridge. This is probably the outstanding track on the album, as it is relatively different from the rest.
Adestria is already good, but have the potential to become an absolutely amazing band. With great vocals, impressive musicianship, decent lyrics, the band could go places. However the lack of innovation on the album is the only thing that keeps me from absolutely being in love with it. A solid album all around though, regardless. I’m excited to see who this band gets signed by.
