Back in 1999, when Tuomas Saukkonen felt the need to break his routines as a drummer of a local band, his new metal project called BEFORE THE DAWN was born. As soon as the studio was booked, the following demo session started a decade that brought 3 demos, 5 full length albums, 1 DVD and 2 mini albums.
However, BEFORE THE DAWN as we had known it so far saw its end on the 25th of June 2011. After the gig at the Nummirock festival, Lars Eikind (bass/clean vocals) and Atte Palokangas (drums) left the band due to a mutual decision based on personal and musical disagreements. Despite all that, band leader and sole songwriter Tuomas Saukkonen and lead guitarist Juho Räihä have been the key members of the band’s sound since the “Deadlight” album with Tuomas delivering the music and production and Juho working behind the mixing desk in the studio, also for the two latest releases “Decade of Darkness” and “Deathstar Rising”. Their teamwork has always guaranteed high-class musical and productional quality in music – this tradition will be maintained, as Tuomas promises: “Current changes were difficult and unfortunate but still inevitable and necessary so that the band could continue and release the 7th album stronger than ever!”
After the European “Rebirth” tour in November 2011 together with INSOMNIUM, BEFORE THE DAWN returned to the studio with new members Pyry Hanski on bass and Joonas Kauppinen on drums to record the said 7th album entitled “Rise Of The Phoenix” – considering the circumstances, they couldn’t have chosen a more suitable title! The new record will bring the band closer to melodic death metal, while gothic influences will be part of the band’s history. One can look forward to the new paths BEFORE THE DAWN will be wandering on!
