Written By Wolves, are a progressive, new, rock band hailing from Auckland. All four members, Davie Wong, Karl Woodhams, Bahador Borhani and Michael Murphy (NZ Idol, 5star Fallout) have devoted their lives to Rock music, and it is out of this shared love for the genre that Written By Wolves was born. They are a band that have set out to do things slightly differently, to create music that is new, unique and perhaps pushes the boundaries of what is expected from the rock genre.

There’s been a buzz about these guys for the past few months, everybody had been wondering when they were finally going to see the boys in action and unless you were able to make it to Rainbows End on the 25/06/2015 then last Friday would of been your best bet. They put on a free show along with bands Thin White Lines and Blue Ruin.
There was a silence over the crowed as the Wolves finished setting up. You could feel the excitement coming off them as the lights dimmed when suddenly you heard the beat of the drums as they exploded into their first song Not Afraid To Die. Most of the crowed was able to sing the words back to singer Michael Murphy and guitarists Bahador Borhani and Davie Wong who appeared to be not able to stay still during the entirety of the set. It’s always great to see a band really get into performing.
Drummer Karl Woodhams was so into the music that he reportedly broke his kick pedal but was lucky enough to be able to borrow another one. Later on in the night he was made to play blindfolded, as punishment while performing a cover of Elastic Heart by Sia.
The band also played another original Explode, and the crowed did just that with almost everyone instantly getting up to dance, this was probably one the most fun local gigs I’ve been to in a very long time.
I would honestly recommend Written By Wolves to anyone who is into music. The best way I find to describe their sound would be similar to very early Fall Out Boy. Their lyrics are well crafted and the instruments behind them make the music itself fun. Also factor in the amount of energy that the band put into performing as well as the obvious planning of the gig itself and you’ve really got something special here.
