BIOGRAPHY My full name is Rogerio Machado de Gouveia, and I am 26 years old. I was born in S?o Paulo on July 24, 1981. When I was sixteen years old I started my music studies and I could never imagine where my interest would reach. When I was in my teens, I studied music in school, but my interest was very little. So, one day my brother told me that he wanted to study music and invited me to go with him. In the first moment, I chose to study the guitar, however, in the second moment, I decided to study drums. After that, I never stopped studying music. I initiated my Bachelor..s degree in Performance (Drums) at Faculdade Santa Marcelina (FASM) in S?o Paulo, Brazil in 2001. That was when I started to have an interest in jazz music. My interest in jazz music developed slowly and I enjoyed it very much and continue to until today, but I understood the music in adagio. During some years, I researched some jazzmen for my musical development, especially drummers like Jimmy Cobb, Art Blakey, Jack DeJohnette, Max Roach and other jazzmen, for my performance and developed my technique over theirs. Due to all these years I reached this result because of my dedication and my patience. I always studied with more persistence my musical instrument however, during the course I discovered Composition which opened my horizon and possibilities. I saw universal music is bigger than I imagined. When I was at Santa Marcelina, the teacher of Aesthetics, told me to compose what I am feeling; inspirations came from within, because I had many melodies in my mind. So, this teacher was the first person to support me. After that, I could not stop composing. Then, I went to study composition with Ana Fridman, this teacher was very important too because she helped me with many tools to develop my own compositions. I initiated my studies of jazz under the tutelage of Sergio Gomes and after that I studied with Edu Ribeiro. These drummers have their own style in Brazilian Music. I also studied Brazilian Music many years with them, principally with the Sergio Gomes, but I confess that Jazz is my passion. I have a great admiration of Art Blakey, beacause when he plays I can feel his strong energy, his dynamics in constructing the climax for each soloist, he was a beautiful teacher for many musicians and also a great inspiration to others. I have to congratulate my musician friends Helio Jambao, Jamil and the invited guest Israel who participated in this presentation on DVD. This formation was very important for my development, and my comprehension of drums and for some years we have rehearsed a repertoire based in the early 60s and 70s. In this era there were many talented musicians who contributed to many generations, for this, I always listened and studied musicians from this era, and now I can contribute a little with my musicality and my faith.
