In October 2006 two brothers Nathan and Daniel Wilson from the small town of Secunda approached Shailin Kallin to start a band, within weeks the three knew they were onto something great and later asked Kevin Webber to join them as bass guitarist. Together these four friends formed the mighty Elegy.

Shailin Kallie together with the rest of the band mastered and molded new epic track. Elegy (a mournful or reflective song/poem), can be described as melodic metal and developed their own style based on soaring vocals, powerful and technical guitar work with major influences from metal legends such as Iced earth, Scar Symmetry, Behemoth, Slayer, Dark tranquility and Machine head.

From their first gig in November 2006, performing at Brendan Village, Secunda they moved rapidly into the entertainment world by establishing their fan base and ended the year on the rise. 2007 saw Elegy played a multitude of gigs including large festivals such as Bellfest, The Summoning, Seasons Wither 1, as well as being part of the Battle for Blind Guardian and Chromiums album launch tour.

In 2008 the success continued as Elegy took part in Seasons wither 2, Grimfest, Secunda Rock fest, Metal rights day, Motherfudd 2008 & have recently been back to play at Motherfudd 2009, they have been booked for Metal rights day in March 2009 as well as some of the bigger festivals such as Seasons Wither 3, Grimfest, Reaperfest and Headbangers bash.

While still a young band, Elegy began to catch the attention of various role-players in the metal industry, Grim Music approached the band after the release of their debut EP in 2007 and from there the only way was up.

Their self titled EP was recorded at Gunston Records in Johannesburg and comprises of 3 tracks, including fan favorite “Ad Nauseum”. After the great success that was achieved with the EP they decided to hit the studio again later that year to record their first full length album, released in February 2009 “A voice will call” has airplay on various campus and online radio stations, with their track Sacred currently being played on air at stations such as Radio today, Midrand Radio, Tuks FM and UJFM. Working together with Duncan Bell from Turning Tricks Entertainment (A&R – http://www.turningtricksentertainment.co.za) , the album will be distributed through Electromode (http://www.electromodemusic.co.za) and is available in music stores nationwide as well as being available to the worldwide audience through online stores

The album has also drawn the attention of MTN Xploaded and Thornrose Music who have now both signed the band as well as Fadedblak Clothing (http://www.fadedblak.co.za/artists.html) who featured the band. Elegy is planning on touring South Africa to promote their new album “A voice will call” and with a promising year ahead, look out for Elegy to be a major part in the metal landscape!
