Eisbrecher [ˈaɪ̯sbʀɛçɐ] is a German rock/electronic music band that consists primarily of Alexx Wesselsky (Vocals) and Noel Pix (Lead Guitar/Programming), with live support of Jürgen Plangger (Guitar), Olli Pohl (Bass), René (Drums), and Maximator (Keyboards/Programming). Their style belongs to the Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness) sub-genre.
After leaving Megaherz due to creative differences in 2003, Alexx Wesselsky got together with Noel Pix, who composed the synths and programming for Megaherz's albums Himmelfahrt and Kopfschuss.
The band's name in translation from German means "Icebreaker". The band's lyrics and slogans often include terms of ice and sailing, such as "Ahoi" (Ahoy) and "Es wird kalt" (It's getting cold). The band's frontman, Alexx Wesselsky, often wears naval and military clothing in performances.
While the debut album Eisbrecher (featuring a song also named Eisbrecher) has more of an electronic sound, its successive release, Antikörper, has a far heavier, metallic style. However, the band remains true to its roots, and the similarity between albums is not entirely unrecognizable, ensuring the group's identity remains firmly attached to the industrial metal genre.
In a recent interview, Wesselsky said that they would prepare their third album for release by early 2008.
On October 2, 2007. Eisbrecher on their MySpace page has said that their album should be out by August 2008, the reason for this release date has been said because of a "strategic" decision which has yet to be revealed, but on a side note, a single will be released before the album and that the new album will most likely contain 11-15 tracks and later on a DVD will be released.
The band announced on May 16 on their official website that the first part of the album production had been completed and the name of their third album will be called Sünde (Sin) and is scheduled for an August 2008 release. On June 8, 2008 it was announced on the Eisbrecher homepage that, this new album will be released specifically on the 22 August in Germany and on the 26 August in America. A single, "Kann denn Liebe Sünde Sein", the first from the upcoming album was released on July 18, 2008 in Germany only.
In the US and Canada, their record label is Dancing Ferret Discs.
