Bryn Haworth is a British bluesy, mellow rock and pop
artist, songwriter, and slide-bottleneck guitarist. All of
his later and current work is gospel rock/blues and
folky, due to him becoming a Christian.
=========================================
Bryn Haworth came to London from Lancashire in the
late sixties to join "les Fleur de Lys", a motown/ soul
band which became house band for Atlantic Records
in England. When the band folded Bryn travelled to
California and from there toured extensively in the US
in various American bands, including the Jackie Lomax
Band, and Wolfgang, a band put together and
managed by the legendary Bill Graham, appearing on
bills with such artists as Led Zeppelin, Jefferson
Airplane, Taj Mahal, Moody Blues and others. In 1973
he returned to England and was signed to Island
records where he made his first LP "Let The Days Go
By". He recorded a further album for Island, ("Sunny
Side Of The Street"), and then continued his career as
a solo recording artist with A&M Records where he
recorded "Grand Arrival" (in Nashville with J.J.Cale's
producer Audie Ashworth) and "Keep The Ball
Rolling". During this period he made numerous radio
and TV appearances, as well as touring extensively in
England and Europe supporting such artists as Traffic,
Bad Company, Gallagher & Lyle and Fairport
Convention. He has been called a 'musician's
musician' - a first class rock musician whose music has
its roots in blues and r&b. He plays guitars and
mandolin and is particularly recognised a remarkable
exponent of the slide (or bottleneck) guitar, a
technique derived from the blues. His is a more gentle
and mellow approach than others which beautifully
compliments his highly melodic songs. He has
recorded with top musicians including Chris de Burgh,
Joan Armatrading, Ian Mathews and Gerry Rafferty.
Amongst his latest sessions have been those for Gerry
Rafferty on his latest albums: "On A Wing And A
Prayer", "Over My Head", and "Another World"
released on the Hyperion label in Jan 2003. Listen out
in particular for Bryn's slide guitar on the opening track
'All Souls'. Bryn also writes his own songs, and has had
several of his own compositions recorded by other
artists including Lulu, Sandy Denny, and Mary Black
on her 1999 album "Speaking With The Angel". In
1974 Bryn and his wife Sally became Christians and
this powerful experience has brought a strong gospel
influence into his music. From 1989-1992 Bryn was on
the pastoral staff of the SW London Vineyard
developing the worship and the prison ministry, and
leading worship at many conferences in the UK. He
now travels extensively performing concerts both solo
and with a band and leading worship seminars and
guitar clinics throughout the world in a wide variety of
venues including concert halls, colleges, churches
and prisons. He has recorded ten further albums -
"The Gap", "Pass It On", "Wings Of The Morning", "
Mountain Mover", "Blue and Gold", "More Than A
Singer", "The Bryn Haworth Band Live", "Slide Don't
Fret" , "The Finer Things In Life" and "Songs &
Hymns" the latter recorded at Fairport Convention's
Woodworm Studios in Oxfordshire in February '99. In
February 2002 Kingsway Music released a double CD
consisting of "More Than A Singer" and "The Bryn
Haworth Band Live", making these 2 exceptional
albums available in one package. Bryn's latest CD "
Water From The Rock", is a compilation of faith
tracks, and is the first release on Bryn's own new label,
Bella Music Ltd.
