These indications show two things:
--- Start this long phrase with an upstroke, and stick to
the alternate picking (constant up-down).
--- This final phrase is played within a pentatonic box of
frets 10- 11-12-13. To make the fingering smooth, stay
strictly within this fingering box: Let your 1st finger deal
with the fret 10 notes, your 2nd finger with the fret 11
notes, etc. (Starting with the 2nd finger might feel a bit
awkward, since it's rarely used in pentatonic scales,
but it's a great and healthy exercise!)
